Definition of Plasma

Plasma is an ionized gas composed of ions and electrons, which is created by the removal of electrons from the atomic electron shell or by the splitting of molecules (ionization). Plasma can also be defined as the fourth state of matter.

In our case, we are dealing with quasi-neutral, low-temperature plasma, where there is an approximate balance between positively charged ions and negatively charged electrons.
